May 25th sees the release of “Arriva La Banda” by the Salento’s Bandadriatica. The CD produced by Finisterre, distributed by Felmay and promoted with support from Puglia Sounds. This rebel band led by accordionist and singer Claudio Prima, has been setting alight the squares across half of Europe for the last five years, and this new album contains a series of new tunes and texts woven together into a new form of song – full of lively and compelling energy. The tracks tell the story of the Adriatic, revisited with the modern-day spirit of the travelling musician, with a message of integration. The band’s stylistic and compositional maturity condenses in eleven lively and innovative tracks mixing wild and crazy groove (like in “A14”, “Balcaneve”,and “Valzebù”)with more rarefied moods like “Il porto” – an intriguing portrait of the Adriatic’s ports, or “Come fanno i marinai” – a tribute to Italian singer-songwriters revisited in a compelling Greek rebetiko. The first single, called “Arriva la banda” is out soon as a video-clip directed by Gianni De Blasi, and is an encouragement to participate and to share cultures, an invitation to get up and follow a band pulling the two Adriatic shore-lines together in a shared celebration, with new opportunities for meetings and exchanges.
