On sale from 26th May, “Aska kalèddhamu” is the new album by the Orchestra Sparagnina directed by maestro Ambrogio Sparagna, released on the Finisterra label and promoted with the support of Puglia Sounds Recording
This album sees young musicians working together with one of the new folk music’s most important exponents in an original project involved with the repertory of songs in the Greek spoken in the Salento. The Orchestra Sparagnina grew out of a teaching project at the Comprehensive School in Corigliano d’Otranto, directed by Luigi Martano and dedicated to recuperating the “griko” language. The Orhestra involves around thirty young singers and musicians under the guidance of Ambrogio Sparagna, performing an original repertory in this Salento dialect. The album features traditional songs, whose texts belong to an oral tradition with many local variations.
