What is Puglia Sounds?

Puglia Sounds is an office created by the regional government of Puglia, Italy (Regione Puglia) in 2010 to boost Puglia’s musicians and music industry and help establish the region as a major player in the Italian – and general European – music scene. It is the first of its kind in Italy: a government-sponsored program focused on music projects and endeavors, recognizing the important role that music continues to play in the economic growth and cultural life of its home region, and how important it is to connect Puglia with major national and international music markets.

Puglia Sounds over the years has divided its initiatives into system actions and specific public intervention actions, organized according to 3 lines of intervention: the first, Puglia Sounds Export, is the line of intervention dedicated to the promotion of Apulian music in Italy and abroad and the internationalization of the regional music system. The second, Puglia Sounds Live is the line of intervention that supports and consolidates the musical activity in the area and intervenes in a structural manner on the segment of festivals and live music in Puglia. Finally, Puglia Sounds Record is the line of intervention aimed at promoting and communicating new record productions.

The activities carried out to date have involved over 70 Apulian municipalities, financing over 1600 live events, 65 new musical performances by Apulian, Italian and international artists produced in Puglia, Networks between Music Festivals which have brought together a total of 106 festivals, over 300 concerts by Apulian artists on the national territory, 335 new record productions of all musical genres, 52 digital productions (thanks to the new Puglia Sounds Producers line of intervention) and 22 promotional compilations distributed in about 500 thousand copies in Italy and abroad.
